Thruxton
PEAD SCORES FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON
1 - 2/May/2005

The Elf Clio Renaultsport UK Cupheads to the fastest track in the country, Thruxton. Ed Pead and Jonathan Adam both lead the championship having scored the same from the season opener at Donington Park.

In qualifying Adam had set the fastest time with Pead provisionally in second, as John Gaw surprised everyone by shooting up to second in the dying minutes having being towed by Matt Allison, leaving Pead in third spot.

Pead got a clean start but dropped down to fourth after the chicane, Adam and Tom Onslow-Cole led after lap one but as Onslow-Cole made a move on team-mate Adam at the complex, he lost exit speed and Gaw went through for second. As they entered the complex for the second time Gaw went for Adam, but Adam held off the attack, Gaw and Onslow-Cole went side by side on the exit allowing Adam a couple of seconds lead. Meanwhile Pead passed Gaw and Onslow-Cole on the next lap and began to pull away. On the seventh lap Pead and Onslow-Cole began battling with a change of place every couple of laps. Pead tried hard to pass Onslow-Cole on the final lap but he managed to hold a tight line into the chicane to claim second with Pead third. Pead said "Tom drove well but it was a shame that Adam was able to get away as we were fighting the whole race, if it had been the three of us then the results may have been different".

Race two Pead started the race from grid two and both Pead and Adam went side by side into the complex with Pead challenging round the outside to lead at the end of the first lap. The four cars of Pead, Adam, Allison and Colbert began a battle for the top spot. Pead did well to hold off the attack from Adam, who on the eighth lap lunged up the inside at the complex. Pead held it round the outside but both ran side by side all the way through to the exit and up into Goodwood. Now heading into the fastest corner in the country, still side by side, Adam had to ease off and slot in behind Pead. As Pead had the tighter line it compromised his exit, and before they got to the chicane, had fallen down to third behind team-mate Allison. With three laps to go Pead passed Allison at Goodwood and reeled in Adam. On the penultimate lap Pead was harassing Adam who locked up going into the complex allowing Pead a small gap, which he slid through to take the lead and held to take his first win of the season. Team-mate Allison finished second with TCR driver Nick Adcock in third and Adam falling down to fourth.

Pead enthused "I feel fantastic! It feels so good to win and I'm very happy for Boulevard who gave me the car to do this. When I went down to third I thought it was going to be a struggle to even get second, but a win at Thruxton is good".

Pead now leads the championship by a single point as the series heads east to his home circuit of Brands Hatch on 4 - 5 June.
